Zombies, zombies, zombies!  It's all been done before, right?  I have personally enjoyed the zombie apocalypse craze in books and movies, but in writing The Night Sweeper, I tried to approach it in a way that I found unique.  I wanted to portray a world that had been ravaged by a zombie outbreak, but was fighting its way back to normalcy.  I think of the book as a post-apocalyptic novel where the society is effectively recovering. All is not hopeless, but through the efforts of a select few, it appears that one day the world could be normal again. I decided to use zombies as the catalyst that propels the characters forward into a realm of non-stop action and mystery. Although they are always in the background, this is not a novel that is just about killing zombies, survival, etc.  That approach has been done (with great success I might add). Rather, most of the action takes place without the presence of zombies.  In the novel, the virus that caused the apocalypse plays a central role in how those in power will use anything they can to gain more power for themselves.  Writing this book has been a wonderful experience for me. I have done my best to write a compelling story that encompasses the best of both the zombie and political intrigue genres.  And most of all, I just tried to write the kind of book I would find entertaining.  I look forward to sharing it with you and more to come as the series progresses.
